Import of feed materials

  1. In the first 5 months of 2023, our whole country imported more than 2.03 million tons of wheat, mainly from the Australian market, accounting for nearly 68.4% of the total volume with the price of 362.3 USD/ton. Besides Australia, Brazil also accounts for 13% of the total import volume of our country.
  2. The total import volume of our country’s soybean meal in the first 5 months of 2023 was 877,686 tons with an average price of 669.9 USD/ton, down 0.9% over the same period in 2022. Soybean was mainly imported from the US and Brazil.
  3. For corn, the import volume of our country in the first 5 months of the year reached nearly 3.21 million tons with an average price of 336.7 USD/ton, down 2.1% in price and up 10.8% in volume over the same period last year. It can be seen that the price increase has stimulated the domestic demand for corn. The Argentine market in the first 5 months of 2023 was 907,017 tons, followed by the Indian market with 697,609 tons.

  1. Grain output and grain demand in 2023/24 are forecast to recover. In which, major cereals such as corn, rice and boron are expected to increase, while wheat and barley are expected to decrease. According to the FAO, cereal consumption in the 2023/24 crop year will reach about 2,803 million tons, mainly due to increased consumption of coarse grains.
  2. At the end of May 2023, Gemadept sold all 84.66% of its equity in Nam Hai Dinh Vu Port Joint Stock Company to Vietnam Container Joint Stock Company (Viconship-VSC). This helps Viconship become the largest port company in Hai Phong with a total capacity of up to 2.6 million TEUs.
